Shane Watson (above) is the new fire chief for the Township of Huron-Kinloss, effective Oct. 30.

Mayor Don Murray made the announcement Tuesday after council approved the hiring of Watson at its meeting Monday night.

Watson brings 10 years’ experience in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter, and has spent the past five years as fire prevention officer and community emergency management co-ordinator for the Municipality of Kincardine.

“Overall, he brings the experience, education and professionalism that make him an asset for our fire and emergency services,” said Murray.

Chief administrative officer Mary Rose Walden welcomes Watson to the township’s senior leadership team. “I look forward to working with him and I am confident that with his experience, he will be a perfect fit for our organization.”

“I thank the Township of Huron-Kinloss mayor, council members, and firefighters,” said Watson. “It’s an honour and a privilege to serve the citizens of Huron-Kinloss as fire chief, having been part of this community for years.

“Strengthening the overall safety of our community is always the priority, and with the strong dedication from our administration, first-responders, council, and the community, we will be there, from prevention through to recovery, for any situation that may arise.”
