TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO SEVERAL CRIMINAL CHARGES

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON)  -  A 55-year-old novice driver of Plympton-Wyoming faces several charges, following a traffic stop Halloween night (Oct. 31).

At approximately 8:40 p.m., a Huron County OPP officer observed a Ford F-150 pick-up truck stopped on the shoulder of Gore Road at the intersection of Nile Road. A traffic stop was initiated to check on the driver’s condition.

While speaking with the male driver, the officer noted he had been consuming alcohol. In addition, the officer spotted open alcohol inside the vehicle. A demand for the roadside screening device was given and the driver provided a sample of his breath. His test resulted in a fail.

The driver was placed under arrest and subsequently searched. Upon searching the vehicle, the investigating officer located open alcohol and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun. Upon searching the driver, the officer found the man to also be in possession of a schedule I substance (Codeine). He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 55-year-old Randy BATES of Plympton-Wyoming has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition contrary to Probation Order, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Codeine), Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero and Have Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor.  He remained in custody with a bail court appearance scheduled for Nov. 2, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

DRIVER IMPAIRED BY DRUGS

(GODERICH, ON) -  The Huron County OPP has charged a 38-year-old female with Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired, following a call to police Oct. 31.

At approximately 5:18 p.m., Huron OPP officers received a call from an employee of a South Street business reporting he was attempting to stop a suspected impaired driver from leaving the business.

The officer located the driver in the driver’s seat of her Pontiac Sunfire with the engine running. Upon speaking with the driver, the investigating officer observed several signs that the driver was impaired by drugs. The driver was arrested for Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired.
