Collision with parked car results in impaired-driving charge
(GODERICH, ON) - The Huron County OPP has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired Driving offences following a collision investigation in Goderich.
Sunday, Oct. 29, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle that had collided with another vehicle on the Goderich Courthouse Square. The involved driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and was later located and stopped on Wellington Street.
Police spoke with the driver and made a demand for a breath sample using the roadside screening device which resulted in a failure. The investigating officer subsequently arrested the driver for Impaired Operation.
The accused then provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilizer Breath Technician at the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton. Suitable breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.
William CRAIG, 74, of Goderich has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired - Over-80
- Fail to Stop After Accident
The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Liquor Licence Control Act.
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused's driver's licence was suspended for a period of 90 days.
The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 4, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
