The Hub in Ripley to close Dec. 15
After three years in operation, The Hub in Ripley will be closing its doors, effective Dec. 15.
That’s the word from Michelle Goetz, Huron-Kinloss strategic initiatives manager, in a report to township council, Nov. 6.
In the report, Goetz noted that the announcement comes with both pride and sadness because a lot has been accomplished over the past three years, “but I’m sad to see the doors close when there is still lots of work to be done.”
Three years ago, funding was secured through the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) and a provincial Rural Economic Development grant, to open The Hub as a regional business support centre where entrepreneurs could receive one-on-one assistance and be connected to the resources and contacts needed to succeed in business.
“At that time, we didn’t fully understand the impact this project would have on our community and the greater Grey-Bruce region,” stated Goetz. “We’ve supported hundreds of businesses; provided thousands of hours of training, consultations and support; piloted numerous incubator programs; and developed meaningful relationships with community partners, entrepreneurs, and training providers.”
She extended the township’s heartfelt thanks to Lauren Eby and Will LeGrand for leading this project with a true desire to support the business community.
A full report, detailing the successes and challenges with this project, will come to council in January.
