This Saturday, Nov. 7, the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team 781 will be celebrating its 15th season by having a reunion with past team members, mentors, sponsors and parents. The event is being held at the Lake Huron Learning Centre, 385 Queen Street, Kincardine, beginning at 4:30 p.m., with the ceremony and dinner at 6 p.m.
The Kinetic Knights have been competing at FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) regional competitions for 15 years - the goal of FIRST is it's not only about kids building robots but about robots building kids and inspiring them to work together solving challenges and learning skills to last a lifetime.
As many people know, Team 781 has been putting Kincardine on the map for a long time now. Besides building winning
robots that have competed all around Ontario and in the United States, including qualifying for the World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, for the past five years, the team has worked hard to give back to the community.
Whether attending cruise nights, street markets, school presentations, highway clean-ups, charity runs or planting trees, you regularly see the Kinetic Knights in their green shirts helping make a difference.
After 15 years, the Kinetic Knights will pause for one evening and celebrate how far they have come, before going full-out again, doing as their motto says, “Setting their potential in motion.”
Team 781 is a group of 40 high-school-aged students, based in Kincardine, that participates in the FIRST robotics program. Since 2002, the Kinetic Knights have worked hard to represent themselves, their donors and their municipality across the province and, for the past five years in a row, on the world stage at championships. You can see
their distinctive green shirts around the area giving back to the community.
