Resident dies in house fire in Municipality of Kincardine
A person is dead after a house fire on Whippoorwill Lane in the Municipality of Kincardine, Friday.

Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services from both Kincardine and Tiverton stations responded to the residential fire and initial reports indicated there was fire visible within the structure and that an occupant was inside.

The first teams on scene activated mutual aid, resulting in four fire stations from three municipalities involved in response efforts.

Heavy smoke and fire prevented initial entry efforts. Crews made a concerted effort to knock down the fire, allowing access to the structure and a subsequent search of the premises. As a result, responders located one occupant of the single-family home, deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld until notification of family.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have yet to be determined. The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the cause and circumstances.

“We can confirm that a person was found deceased at the scene, and per standard procedure, the Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted,” said deputy fire chief Ron Simmons. “The investigation is ongoing.

“At this time, I extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim on behalf of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services.”

Simmons also thanked the first-responders for their efforts on the scene.
