Bervie W.I. opens 2024 with presentation by local author
The Bervie Women’s Institute held its first meeting of 2024 at the Bervie Church, Wednesday morning.
President Bev Berndt opened with a welcome and the usual openings and grace. The Roll Call, “A favourite author and one of his/her books,” was answered by 11 members and one visitor.
Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Sandra MacDonald gave the treasurer’s report.
Ellen Waye provided particulars about two upcoming FWIO (Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario) Zoom meetings, which were scheduled for Jan. 3 and 4. Sandra gave the Sunshine Report.
Program convener Rose Weir introduced former W.I. member Sylvia Hasbury who spoke about how she became an author. She had joined the Bruce County Genealogical and Historical Societies, had written articles for the “Owen Sound Sun Times,” and taken some writing courses with groups. She told the group about her progression to becoming an author, and she has now written a few books. Rose thanked Sylvia and presented her with a gift.
Thanks to hostess Janice Hewitt for the snacks, and the meeting closed with the singing of “God Save the King” and the Closing Ode.
The next meeting will be held Feb. 7, at 10 a.m., at the Bervie Church.
