Bruce Power again named one of Canada’s best employers and top employer for young people
Bruce Power once again has been named among Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes, an award based on an independent survey of more than 40,000 Canadian employees.

The annual ranking, which Forbes created in partnership with market research firm Statista, is based primarily on a survey of people working for Canadian companies and institutions that employ at least 500 individuals.

Survey respondents were asked to rate their employer based on a range of criteria, including salary, gender pay-equity, work flexibility, opportunities for promotion and on-the-job training. Participants were also asked if they would recommend their employer to others and were given the chance to rate other employers in their respective industries.

“It is a proud moment knowing that Bruce Power was once again selected by its employees and others as one of Canada’s Best Employers,” said Karen Smith, vice-president and chief human resources officer. “Our employees take pride in the work they do in providing clean electricity for Ontario and cancer-fighting medical isotopes to the world health-care community.

“As a company, we’re committed to support our employees by investing in their careers through comprehensive training, mentoring, support programs, pay and benefits. Our Life-Extension Program will support career opportunities for decades to come.”

Bruce Power has also been recognized as one of southwestern Ontario’s top employers.

Plus, it has been named one of Canada’s top employers for young people.

This is the 13th consecutive year that the company has been presented this honour in an editorial competition organized by the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. The award was given in recognition of Bruce Power’s programs for young people, including on-line and in-house training programs, employee resource and affinity groups, development student program for work experience, and industry leading career development opportunities.

“Young people play a vital role in our diverse workforce here at Bruce Power and we recognize that offering programs and training, as well as a safe, fulfilling work environment, will help employees develop into the leaders of tomorrow,” said Smith.

Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition that recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers. Winners are chosen based on the programs and initiatives they offer to attract and retain younger workers.

The editors also examine each employer’s mentorship and training programs, including benefits such as bonuses paid on completing trades or professional designations. The editors review each employer’s career management program, looking for initiatives that help younger workers advance faster in the organization.

Jason Ng, president of the Bruce Chapter of North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN), said the group has an active membership that supports the development of nuclear workers while also providing social outlets and encouraging community outreach.

“NAYGN is proud to work alongside Bruce Power in encouraging our members to reach their full potential to become leaders in the industry,” said Ng. “Bruce Power is a great place to work and the company provides a wide array of opportunities for everyone.”

Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement (MCR) project will extend the life of the site to 2064 and beyond, long-term investments in its nuclear fleet that will provide employment and career opportunities in an exciting industry for decades to come.
