Former Toronto Blue Jay Homer Bush to lead minor baseball camps in Kincardine, Clinton

February 3, 2024

Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb is pleased to announce that the seventh annual Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp, and the 10th annual Clinton Minor Baseball Camp are scheduled to return this July to offer local youth affordable, valuable baseball instruction.

This year’s head instructor is former New York Yankee and Toronto Blue Jay, Homer Bush (above).

Bush was a part of the Yankees 1998 World Series Championship team and played for the Jays from 1999-2002. In his stand-out season as a Blue Jay in 1999, he Bush batted .320 and stole 32 bases, ranking among the American League’s top 15 in batting and stolen bases.

After retirement in 2004, Bush served as a hitting instructor with the San Diego Padres and now coaches camps and clinics during the summer for the Blue Jays and Yankees. He was also an instructor at the Elite Development Invitational with Major League Baseball and U.S.A. Baseball.

“This is an opportunity for the next generation of baseball players at any skill level to work with an elite coach right here in Huron-Bruce,” says Lobb. “These camps are only possible with the generous support of local sponsors, minor baseball associations and the community.”

A decade ago, Lobb noticed that baseball was making a comeback in Huron-Bruce. Having played the sport in Clinton growing up, and continuing to play throughout his time at university, he is passionate about fostering its growth among local youth and encouraging their skills development and leadership.

In 2012, he hosted the inaugural Clinton Minor Baseball Camp, and three years later, the inaugural Kincardine Minor Baseball Camp. Every year, he has been able to secure community sponsors to make the camp affordable so that all players who wish to participate can do so.

The two-day camps are open to boys and girls, ages seven to 15, and the cost is just $75.

This year’s camps will run July 10-11 at Connaught Park in Kincardine, and July 8-9 at the Clinton Community Ball Park. For more information and to register, visit www.kincardineminorbaseballcamp.ca or www.clintonminorbaseballcamp.ca. Space is limited and the camps sell out each year, so interested participants are encouraged to register soon.
