​Weight restriction, alternate truck routes for Walkerton bridge project

Bruce County’s transportation and environmental services department has implemented two alternate truck routes, effect Friday (Feb. 16), related to the Durham Street Bridge in Walkerton.

These alternate routes will facilitate the continued movement of truck traffic during a weight restriction period on the Durham Street Bridge until rehabilitation/repairs are made to the bridge.

The weight restriction would be a three-level load limit which differentiates various heavy truck types by the number of axles on the truck or trailers and permits a maximum vehicle weight. The recommended weight restrictions would apply to vehicles greater than 15, 25, and 30 tonnes, with corresponding axles.

Advanced warning signage for the alternate routes will be placed strategically ahead of the bridge to divert heavy truck traffic from passing over the bridge.

The county appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as it completes this important infrastructure work in Walkerton.
