Off the Broom: Major league curling wraps up season
The BrokerLink Insurance Grey-Bruce major league curling wound up its season, Feb. 14, at the Paisley Curling Club.
The championship game was a close one with Les Shane of the Kincardine Curling Club stealing one in the eighth and final end, for a victory over the league-leading team headed by Joey Rettinger of the Walkerton club.
The final score for the Ainsdale Golf Course-sponsored team was an 8-7 win. The winners were a five-man team, with Shane calling the game and throwing second rock, Peter Newton throwing skip rock, Derek Regier playing third, and lead position shared by Jim Roberts and Tim Church. This was the team’s first championship title.
The “B” final was won by Don Bartley of Tara and the “C” final winner was Scott Davidson of Wiarton.
The league is looking for new teams or individual curlers to join next fall. If anyone is interested or would like more information, contact Shane at
