The lower level of the Point Clark Community Centre was crowded with clients, friends and well-wishers, as Her Strength Studio held its grand re-opening, Saturday.
Lynda Shields, owner and strength coach, and Melissa Dozois, yoga, meditation and mobility coach, were thrilled with the solid turn-out.
They welcomed everyone to the event and thanked all those who have supported the business since Shields began operating it out of her home in Point Clark 18 months ago. Her Strength Studio moved to the new location, Feb. 5, with the official ribbon-cutting held Saturday morning.
“This is so exciting,” says Shields. “I get to do what sets my heart on fire every day. Thanks to my colleague, Melissa, and my husband, Dan (Martin), and everyone for all your support.”
Also on hand for the re-opening, were Huron-Kinloss mayor Don Murray and business and economic officer Amy Irwin; Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson; president Manny Page and Kirston Zandwyk of the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce; and Karen McDonald of the Ripley Business Community.
They presented certificates and offered congratulations to Shields and Dozois, and assisted with the ribbon-cutting.
“You have created a positive and engaging business for women to broaden their scope of fitness,” said Murray. “A positive attitude and mindset will allow more women to become their best. Thanks to our staff members for their help in the relocation of this business as it will allow more women to take advantage of what it has to offer.
“On behalf of Huron-Kinloss, thank you, and we wish you all the best in your expanded adventure.”
Shields opened the studio because strength training has had such a positive effect on her life and she wanted to share those benefits with other women like her. Being in her late 40s, she learned the importance of strength training as we age, lose muscle mass and experience peri-menopause and menopause.
“Muscle capacity (strength) is the No. 1 determining factor of quality of life,” says Shields. “We need strength to perform activities of daily life. This is the type of functional strength we focus on together.
“We are Canfitpro-qualified personal trainers and group class coaches. Our certifications have prepared us to provide personal training and group training experiences, safely and effectively. Our focus is on strength and mobility for all women. We help women get stronger and move better, to do more of the things they love at every age.
“Many of our clients are local and join us in our private studio in beautiful Point Clark. Many others join live on-line from their home or wherever they are from across Canada and the United States.”
Her Strength Studio’s tagline is "Strong women, strong minds, strong lives."
“What this means is strong, physically, to do more of what you love, and strong, mentally, having the right mindset to focus on what’s important,” says Shields. “That’s what your body can do for you, not a number on the scale. The result is a healthier, happier and improved quality of life.”
