​More than 200 celebrate Eleanor Thompson’s 90th birthday

A crowd of more than 200 people joined Eleanor Thompson to celebrate her 90th birthday, Saturday afternoon, at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton.

The Kincardine woman greeted about 150 friends and neighbours during the come-and-go tea in the afternoon, followed by dinner and dancing for about 100 family and friends.

Among the dignitaries, were Eleanor’s brother, Keith Surridge, 92, of Penticton, British Columbia; and her sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Bernie Fobert of Bobcaygeon.

Eleanor grew up in the Tiverton area and farmed with her husband, Ron, east of Tiverton. She has lived in Kincardine since 2016. To read about her life, click here.

In lieu of gifts for her birthday, Eleanor requested that people make donations to the Kincardine Food Bank.

On her actual birthday, Thursday (March 7), she presented more than $800 in monetary donations, and a carload of non-perishable items to the food bank. When the on-line donations were added, the total was $1,135.
