Decision reached on future regional model for Restorative Care services

November 17, 2015

Following extensive consultation amongst the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Grey Bruce Health Services, Hanover and District Hospital and the South West Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), a regional model for Restorative Care services will be established, after the South West Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN) had no objection to the integration at its board of directors meeting Nov. 17, in Zurich.

The decision comes following the review of a detailed report developed by consultant group, Deloitte, outlining the current model of Restorative Care services in the region and highlighting five alternative options for sustainable service delivery models that align with broader LHIN initiatives.

Moving forward, an integrated regional program for Restorative Care services will be implemented, through which Restorative Care beds will be distributed across the two counties to provide patients with access to care closer to home. In the past, the 10 Restorative Care beds at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s Chesley site have served patients from all over Grey and Bruce.

The new model will be achieved by leveraging existing bed capacity at Grey Bruce Health Services’ Owen Sound Site and the Hanover and District Hospital, and reducing the number of Restorative Care beds at the Chesley hospital.

Jan. 1, 2016, Grey Bruce Health Services will open its four existing Restorative Care beds to the regional program. Following that, April 1, 2016, two to three beds will be opened at Hanover and District Hospital, and the South Bruce Grey Health Centre will reduce the number of Restorative Care beds at the Chesley site to five from 10. Co-ordinated access to the beds will be done in partnership with the South West CCAC, to ensure consistency of the admission criteria on a regional level.
