Tiverton Splash Pad to be completed by the end of this year

Kincardine council has awarded the tender for the Tiverton Splash Pad which should be completed by the end of this year.

At the council meeting Wednesday night (April 24), Mike Di Giovanni, manager of parks and facilities, presented the report, recommending council award the contract for the design, supply, and installation of the splash pad, to Diamond Head Sprinklers Inc. in the amount of $ 274,950, plus HST.

The report states that the 2024 capital budget allocated $300,000 for this project, with $275,000 for the splash pad, and the remainder set aside to bring municipal water and electrical servicing to the lot, beside the playground, just west of the Tiverton Sports Centre.

The cost includes staff training, component supply and installation, as well as landscaping, states Di Giovanni. The project is funded by donations of $295,000 and $5,000 from the Lifecycle Reserve Fund for the water supply connections.

Diamond Head Sprinklers supplied the municipality with two preferred concept designs for consideration. Community engagement, in the form of an on-line survey, will determine the final design to be installed. The project includes the splash pad, holding tank, mechanical systems and controllers, and electrical requirements, and will meet the accessibility standards of the municipality.

The Tiverton Splash Pad project is being completed in partnership with the Tiverton Lions Club, states Di Giovanni. The club has worked closely with the municipality throughout the process and had significant input in preparing the scope for the project. The Lions Club has also been the primary sponsor of the project in raising funds for its completion.

Jim McTeer of the Tiverton Lions Club was also at the council meeting for another purpose. He noted that the club operates the Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton with a board of directors. That board consists of four Lions and three community members.

If there is a profit at the end of the year, anything over $1,000 is split between the Lions and the Municipality of Kincardine for the community centre reserve fund.

McTeer was proud to report that the centre made a profit of $4,784 in 2023, and he presented a cheque for $2,000 to go into the reserve fund.

“We thank the Lions Club and the board of directors for operating this building so well,” said mayor Kenneth Craig, “and we look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.”
