Purple Grove news

We're glad that the long weekend was nice and people were out and about taking in the yard sales and starting the camping season! Guess it's time to be on the watch and checking for ticks on ourselves and out pets!

It's also the Flower Moon this month, May 23. All our favourite perennials are coming out - Iris, Peony, last of the tulips, lilacs and snowball bushes.

The Purple Grove Women’s Institute ladies enjoyed their annual May Night Out with conveners Robyn Bridge, Christine Bridge and Bren de Leeuw. The event included brain teasers, jokes and bingo, a beautiful roast beef dinner from West Coast Catering and desserts from the Back Forty Baker, and lovely weather and drive along the lake on the way home! The next meeting is June 5 at the Purple Grove Community Centre at 7 p.m., with speakers from the Good Food Box program.

Congratulations to several of our Purple Grove residents and extended family and friends on some significant wedding anniversaries this month! Dave and Margie Lochhead celebrated their 48th anniversary, and Neil and Joan Vincent marked their 40th with a surprise party with family and friends. Cheryl and Carmon Bridge at 34 years and Kathy and Lee Drennan also celebrated recently. John and Joyce Farrell were 50 years married, May 18, and immediate family gathered Sunday to celebrate.

Also, some folks have reached milestone birthdays too – Donald Geddes is 80 years young, George Miller and Anne MacInnes are now checking the “70” box, Peter Roberts, Debbie Wray, Don Thompson, Jan Logtenberg, Robyn Bridge, Christine Bridge and Emily Rombouts have also
celebrated their special days, with family, friends and cake, recently.

Several people in our area enjoyed the start of summer with the Summer Music Festival in Port Elgin last weekend! Great music by the Trews, Blue Rodeo, and Dean Brody with Kim Mitchell. Thanks to the Port Elgin Rotary Club for hosting these great artists and bringing them to our part of the country.

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family of Gene Zarubick of Kincardine and other families who have loved ones recently. We also are praying for those who are under the weather and in hospital at this time.

It's the season for turtles on the move! Paisley and Nora Farrell found a Snapping Turtle in their back yard, heading for some place to nest, so they moved it to a more turtle-friendly space on their farm.
