Kincardine Legion Corner
Hello readers!
I am Glenn Booker, the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Kincardine Legion, taking over from Lisa Shaw. First off, a HUGE thank you to Lisa for all her amazing work over the past two years and for her help in transitioning this role to me.
Before delving into this week’s happenings, I want to note that
June 6, 2024, marks the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, and commemorates the historic Allied invasion of Normandy during the Second World War. As we mark this milestone, it is essential for Canadians to take a moment to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by our military heroes who demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication. Their efforts not only shaped the outcome of the war but also laid the foundation for the peace and freedoms we enjoy today. Lest we forget.
Moving on to Legion news, once again, the Ace of Spades has eluded the weekly winner. Congratulations to Natalie Nowkawalk who won an amazing $10,156 in Wednesday’s
Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 33 which contained an Ace, but it was the Ace of Diamonds. So, we roll into another week. The jackpot is estimated to be over $200,000, so be sure to get your tickets!
At the
Saturday Meat Draw, Stephanie Rutledge was the double-dipper. Bruce Hedley won $210 in the 50/50 draw. If you are planning to attend this Saturday, remember tickets go on sale at 2:30 p.m., with the first draw at 3 p.m. The 50/50 is drawn at 5 p.m.
As for June events, there is a lot going on.
Trivia Night is Friday, June 14, at 7 p.m. Sign-up is open – eight people to a team, $5 per person. You must be sure to sign up and pay ahead of time at the Legion club room bar.
Next, we have the
District C Track and Field Meet, which runs Saturday, June 15, at the Davidson Centre. Good luck to all the athletes!
The following weekend, we have the
Family Dinner, Sunday, June 23, with the doors opening at 5 p.m. Plan to bring the whole family for an awesome roast beef dinner that is sure to wow.
The same day, June 23, at 2 p.m, will be the next
General Membership Meeting.
To wrap up this week, we want to
congratulate all of the amazing Legion volunteers who were recognized Saturday at Branch 183’s Honours and Awards and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Teri Leslie was chosen and celebrated as Legionnaire of the Year for 2024. Congrats Teri, so well deserved! The Branch Service Medal was given to Mike Dupuis who helps in a wide variety of ways, including calling Bingo, helping with the Poppy Campaign and so much more.
