Last week, we were excited to announce that Regan Carruthers was the Catch the Ace jackpot winner. This past Monday, Carruthers and her son came to the Legion to pick up her cheque and take a group photo with the ‘big’ cheque. The final numbers are still being crunched, but we will let you know about the money raised for the charities once we know for sure.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, Patti Jardine was the double-dipper. Bill Arnold was the 50/50 draw winner, taking home $202. If you are planning to join the fun this Saturday, remember tickets go on sale at 2:30 p.m., with the first draw at 3 p.m. The 50/50 is drawn at 5 p.m.

Last Saturday, June 15, the Crystal Taylor District C Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field Meet was held at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine. More than 220 athletes participated in the meet from more than 50 regional Legion branches in 90 separate events for boys and girls, aged 12-17. The weather was perfect and spectators were also treated to a special once-in-a-lifetime flyover by a Second World War-era Lancaster FM213 which was at the Goderich Airport.
A few records were set and a number of local athletes won medals. Of note, were the Turland sisters, Evie and Adalee, who won five medals between them, including three golds, in shot put, discus and hammer throw. Adalee set a meet record for Under-16 3K shot put with a throw of 12.07 metres.
Winners from the District C meet now move on to the provincial competition which takes place July 12-13 at York University.
A big thank you goes out to the many volunteers who helped out, our supportive parents and, of course, the many athletes who gave it their all!

Friday’s Trivia Night saw 15 teams competing, with questions from Tom in categories similar to Trivial Pursuit. A fun night was had by all. If you know that the city that borders the Bosphorus is Istanbul, perhaps you should get on a team and play next month!

This Sunday (June 23) is the Legion Family Dinner with the doors opening at 5 p.m. This is a first-come, first-serve event, so arrive early to make sure you get a spot. On the menu is a roast beef dinner and prices can be seen on our Facebook page. Legion members should remember that at 2 p.m., June 23, is the General Membership Meeting.

July will be here before we know it and there are two big events at the Legion. July 1, you can come to the Legion for Canada Day and enjoy some food and refreshments on the Parking Lot Patio, and listen to some great music from HWY 19. Then, Saturday, July 13, we have our Legion Blues Festival, with food, refreshment and good music. Admission is free, and doors open at Noon with music beginning at 1 p.m. More details about both these events are on our Legion Branch 183 Facebook page and Instagram.
