The third annual Rock With Your Docs was a huge success, drawing the largest crowd ever.
Held Friday at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, the event was a fund-raiser for the Kincardine Hospital capital campaign. No final tally is yet available, but the concert is being called the best one yet.
Hundreds of people enjoyed the music of "Higher Funktion" with band members from Grey and Bruce counties; and "Franks 'n Beans" which proved that lawyers are cool people too.
The major attraction was "Local Anesthesia" which featured Kincardine health-care professionals, Dr. Jason Murray, Dr. Angela Cavanagh, Dr. Owen Montpellier, and RN Skye Schaus, and drummer Fran Van Rooy.
Just prior to the band taking the stage, James Scongack, Bruce Power's chief development officer and executive vice-president; and Nancy Shaw, president and chief executive officer of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, welcomed everyone to Rock With Your Docs.
“Thank you to the health-care professionals at the Kincardine Hospital,” said Scongack. “My wife, Jenny, and I were privileged to take part in a golf tournament in support of Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario. We were one of the families stationed at a hole on the golf course, sharing our story about our experience with Ronald McDonald House. All of us were sharing a life-changing event.
“When you look at the numbers of people using the emergency room at the Kincardine Hospital, the number of CT scans, the number of tests. Every number is potentially a life-changing event for somebody.
“Working together as a community, we can ensure that when a life-changing event happens, we can provide the best health care, close to home, with the best equipment available.”
Shaw thanked everyone for supporting Rock With Your Docs which has raised almost $100,000 in its first two years, and this year, should bring in another $50,000. “The future of the Kincardine Hospital is important to the Municipality of Kincardine and the surrounding area.”
Scongack told the crowd that every individual can contribute to the $18-million capital campaign for the redevelopment of the Kincardine Hospital.
“There are three things you can do,” he said. “You can donate; you can volunteer; and you can help spread the word. You can do one or two of those things or all three, and this community is going to nail it!”
As "Local Anesthesia" hit its first chord, Dr. Jason Murray said, “We’re playing for you, Doug (Kennedy). You’ve given your heart and soul to this community. Let’s rock!”
The band was followed by "Lulu’s Roadhouse Band" of Kitchener which had everyone up on the dance floor for the rest of the night.
The event also featured jokes by Fast Eddie, a live auction which raised thousands of dollars, and a delicious dinner by West Coast Catering of Kincardine.
Jodi Hanna won the 50/50 draw and donated the proceeds back to Rock With Your Docs.
