Registration now open for United Way of Bruce Grey Backpack Program
The United Way of Bruce Grey has announced that registration for the annual Backpack Program is now open for low-income families in the region. Families can register by calling 211.
Over the past 20 years, the program has distributed 35,278 backpacks filled with essential school supplies, to students in need, ensuring that every child in the community starts the school year equipped for success.
Each backpack contains grade-appropriate items, such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and other essential school supplies. This year, the program aims to serve even more families, ensuring that no child starts the school year at a disadvantage.

To make financial contributions to the program, you can do so on-line at

To donate supplies, please drop off new school supplies at the United Way office at 380 - 9th Street East, Owen Sound, or at the "Stuff the Bus" event at Staples in Owen Sound, Aug. 15-17.
"Education is a critical pathway out of poverty,” says Francesca Dobbyn, executive director of United Way of Bruce Grey. “By providing these essential school supplies, we are helping to remove barriers and give every child the opportunity to succeed in school. We encourage all eligible families to register as soon as possible to ensure their children are prepared for the 2024-25 school year."
To ensure the continued success of the Backpack Program, the fund-raising goal for this year is set at $90,000.
