INTIMATE PARTNER INVESTIGATION LEADS TO FIREARMS CHARGES

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) - June 29, the South Bruce OPP responded to an address in Chesley and initiated an intimate partner investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a 70-year-old resident of Chesley has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
 

• Breach of Firearms regulations
• Unauthorized possession of firearms

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton at a later date.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old resident of Chesley has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
 

• Assault
• Assault Cause Bodily Harm
• Uttering Threats

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton at a later date.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims.

GOLF CARTS ON ROADWAYS NOT PERMITTED IN ARRAN-ELDERSLIE

(ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) - June 29, the South Bruce OPP received the report of a golf cart being driven on Victoria Street, Paisley, in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie.

Although golf carts may resemble low-speed vehicles, they do not meet the safety standards for low-speed vehicles required in the Highway Traffic Act and the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. As golf carts don't meet the safety standards, they must not be operated on a roadway in Ontario.

Potential charges, with fines, for driving a golf cart on a road, include:
 

• Operate motor vehicle on a roadway with no insurance
• Operate motor vehicle without required equipment
• Operate motor vehicle with no vehicle permit
• Operate motor vehicle on roadway with no driver's licence

There is currently a 10-year pilot project by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) to allow “golf cars” on the roadway. This applies only to the Township of Huron-Kinloss and the Township of Pelee Island. An amendment to the Highway Traffic Act and a municipal bylaw are required to permit the operation of a golf car on the road.

Huron-Kinloss has created a bylaw allowing the operation of specially-equipped golf cars on select roadways. Anyone interested in more information is encouraged to visit the township website at: www.huronkinloss.com.
