Kincardine Legion Corner

This past week, Branch 183 made a donation toward enhancing youth programming in Kincardine. The Legion presented $2,000 to the 2nd Kincardine Scouts, to help support their organization. Some Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, along with their volunteer leaders, came to the Legion to accept their big cheque. They are always on the look-out for new volunteers, so if you are interested, check out their Facebook page. In addition to their great programs for the various Scouting age groups, they are also involved in many community activities. Did you see all the bags of cans, etc., that they collected on the mornings after the Lighthouse Blues Festival?

At the recent District Golf Tournament in Fergus, Brenda Cooper and Cathy Alcombrack emerged as the winners, and Jake and Keith Colley placed fourth in regular golf. Both teams qualify to advance to the provincial Legion Golf Tournaments, Sept. 13, with Jake and Keith in Clinton, and Brenda and Cathy in Seaforth. In addition, congratulations to both Jake and Brenda for winning the longest drive at the tournament. Good luck on the 13th!

Saturday was the big Legion Blues Celebration. The event was a great success, with standing-room only for a good portion of the day. Events like this take a lot of people-power, so thanks to everyone who came out to have some food and drinks while listening to the four amazing bands; and thanks so much to the band members and sound crew, it all sounded amazing! We want to send a huge thank you to our sponsor, Montgomery Industrial Services, and to Honey Montgomery for attending. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes to help make this event a great one. Finally, kudos to John Taylor for all his planning, insight, organizing of the bands, and more, that helped the whole day run smoothly.

To wrap up, Trivia Night is Friday, July 19, and we are back to Meat Draws on the coming Saturdays.

Family Dinner at the Legion is Sunday, July 28, so mark that on your calendar. We will put the Family Dinner menu on our Facebook page when it’s set.

Lastly, next week, Wednesday, July 24, at 3 p.m., we will be having a Major Donation Event at the Legion where some community donations will be made. Feel free to drop by and watch if you like.
