Kincardine Kippers hold 59th annual awards banquet
The Kincardine Kippers Swim Team held its 59th annual awards banquet at the Kincardine Davidson Centre, Friday evening, July 12.

The event began with a family swim, followed by a potluck dinner and finally, the presentation of the awards from the final meet held July 6 in Wilmot and the annual awards.

The awards were presented by the coaches. This year’s coaches were team president Dave Kohut, Joe Casciano, Ken Corbett, Vy Waller, Heather Boettinger, Colleen Shute, Kevin Boot, Kirstin Beaton and Carole Robertson. The team’s treasurer is Mike Specht.

First off, were the Peter Dingle Awards, presented to the boy and girl who have shown team spirit and sportsmanship. This year’s winners were Aniruddh Tokekar (right) and Poppy McFarlane.

The Beta Sigma Phi Awards are presented to the most improved boy and girl. This year’s winners were Isaiah Clark-Grant and Natalie Doran.

The Emma Johnstone Memorial “Love of Swimming” Award goes to the swimmer who demonstrates the special qualities Emma had. This year’s winner was Harrison Henhoeffer.

Finally, the B.A. Eggleton Awards were presented to Blake Devitt (left) and Kendra Newton. This award winner is chosen by the other team members and is for the boy and girl who have shown team spirit and sportsmanship.

The Kippers Swim Team was started by Ann Shar in 1965. Then, the swimmers swam off the south pier. Later, Sam McGregor donated the use of his family pool until the Kippers moved to the Davidson Centre Pool.

Next year will be the 60th Anniversary of the Kippers.

To be eligible to join the team, you must be able to swim the length of the pool, unassisted, and be under the age of 19, as of Aug. 31, 2025. For more information, contact Kohut at 519-386-2222 or Robertson at 519-396-6781.
