The long, hot days of summer are passing quickly and we trust everyone had a good Civic Holiday weekend!

Congratulations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation and its fund-raising efforts, especially the amazing results from Cruise Night in in downtown Kincardine! Thank you everyone for supporting this event!

There have been a few people in the community who have recently celebrated birthdays: Kathy Carruthers, Bev Fry, Belinda Courtney, Michelle Liddle, Ed de Boer and Abby MacDonald. This week, Callie VanDyke will celebrate her first birthday and Noah Lotton has a birthday too!

Belated wedding anniversary greetings to Jean and Ian MacDonald, Sarah and Glen Farrell, and upcoming greetings to Carmen and Jeff Knapp, and a very Happy 55th Wedding Anniversary to Bob and Peggy Taylor!

We extend our sympathy to the family of Ron Nicholson whose funeral was held last week. Ron operated the Ripley Welding and Machine Shop for many years.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of Shauna Pearse of Plainfield, New Hampshire, formerly of Lucknow, daughter of Bill and Suzanne Andrew. A celebration of life was held last Saturday at the Andrew Dairy in Lucknow.

And a celebration of life was held for Joan Roe last weekend at the Point Clark Community Centre.

Sunday, the Herb and Ada Farrell Family Reunion was hosted by the Cliff family at the home of Dianne and Wilfred Gamble. About 75 people were in attendance and Uncle John Nother, who just celebrated his 85th birthday, was also there to visit with the nieces and nephews again. The group was pleased to visit with cousins from Calgary and other more local communities.

Congratulations to the organizers of Cargill Homecoming 2024 for all the events they hosted! Great entertainment, with Owen Riegling, Colt McLauchlin, The Doubts, Bonez of Contention, and Pauly and the Greaseballs, along with several other groups. For the children, there were magicians, a foam party (bring your swimsuit!), rock-climbing, and wouldn't you like to have been there for the Rubber Boot Scavenger Hunt?!

On the holiday Monday, the Lucknow 4-H Dairy Invitational saw more than 130 4-H and pre 4-H members from Huron, Bruce, Grey, Waterloo, Perth, Wellington, Dufferin, Lambton, Middlesex, Chatham Kent, Essex, Brant and Oxford counties, at this major dairy competition! Judge Markus Hehli of Rimbey, Alberta, concentrated on the showmanship skills of the 4-H members and kept things moving along. Congratulations to the organizing committee, the volunteers, sponsors and all the participants for an excellent day!

The Purple Grove Women's Institute will meet Aug. 14, at 1 p.m., at Marilyn Reid's home - please note the time change. Bring a snack and any photos, farm updates, and notes, as the ladies will work on updating the Tweedsmuir History books.

RIPLEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The agricultural society is looking for a junior youth (aged 12-15) and senior youth (aged 17-21) to take on the role of 2023-24 Ripley-Huron Fall Fair junior and senior ambassadors. This is an opportunity to represent the Ripley Agricultural Society at community events throughout the area. As an incentive, the agricultural society will provide a bursary to the ambassadors at the end of their term for their contributions to community events. Have all your question answered about the ambassador program, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. at Lewis Park in Ripley. Connect with the society at ripleyfair@hurontel.on.ca.

Get started on your crafts and enter exhibits at the fall fair! The homecraft exhibit book is now available on the website at: ripleyfair.ca/assets/docs/fairbook2024.pdf. Exhibit entry forms can be found on the website and will be located in stores in Ripley and Kincardine in the upcoming weeks.

For the fall fair parade, please pre-register on-line before Friday, Sept. 27, at www.ripleyfair.ca. Pre-registration will cut back on congestion at the start of the parade and help lessen the load on organizers during fair day. All registrants will receive their prize money via mailing address.
