Kincardine Chamber of Commerce to host seniors’ forum, Oct. 1
The Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce is set to host “Successful Aging – a Forum for Seniors,” Oct. 1, National Seniors’ Day, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The half-day event will welcome residents, aged 55-plus, and caregivers who are interested in learning more about what the next stage of life holds for them, how they can plan and live their best retirement years, and services available to seniors. The event will also be of interest to those serving as caregivers for aging relatives and friends.

“Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength,” said chamber president Chris Turcotte. “The forum gives those in our community and area a chance to see what our local chamber businesses have to offer them in a laid-back, no-pressure setting.”

The forum will feature six speakers, touching on such subjects as awareness of frauds and scams, building an age-friendly community, and mental and physical health and wellness.

There will be a social component to the event as well, as seniors will be encouraged to meet their neighbours and visit 18 vendors on-site, offering products and services to enhance seniors’ lives and help them plan for the future.

Event sponsors include Meridian Credit Union, Trillium Court Seniors’ Community, the Municipality of Kincardine, Lake Huron Audiology, and community partners Bruce Power, EPCOR and Reliance Home Comfort. Those interested in sponsorship or renting a vendor spot should contact the chamber for more information.

The event is free to all who wish to attend, but you must pre-register by sending an E-mail to director@kincardinechamber.com or by calling 519-396-9333. Leave your name, how many seats you wish to reserve, and your phone number or E-mail address.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and speakers begin at 9 a.m. The event will conclude by 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served mid-morning.

Donations of non-perishable food items or cash for the Kincardine Food Bank will be accepted at the door, in lieu of an admission charge.
