Kincardine Knox Church launches 2024 Winter Warmth Coat Drive
The days are getting shorter, the geese are on their practice flights, and the trees are trying on their bright fall coats. What does this mean? It means that autumn is on its way and winter will be close on its heels.
For this reason, Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine has just launched its Winter Warmth Coat Drive – a full month earlier this year so that a cold snap won’t sneak up on anyone who doesn’t have adequate winter wear.
Once again, West Shore Clothing and Surf Shop, and Little Beginnings Daycare and Learning Centre, both in downtown Kincardine, have agreed to be depots where surplus winter clothing and accessories – clean and in a good state of repair – can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., weekdays.
Free distribution will be at Knox Church, Friday, Oct. 24, from 6-9 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There is a need for such a collection and distribution in the Kincardine area.
The recent Kids Clothing Drive saw 30 appreciative families find much-needed items for their children. And the United Way of Bruce Grey Backpack Program supplied 65 free backpacks to area families, in addition to the bulk orders that were supplied to such agencies as Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey and Community Living of Kincardine and District.
Also, the Kincardine Food Bank has seen its usage climb steadily this year.
Fortunately, the Kincardine area has many generous hearts and helpful citizens. So, let’s celebrate that by digging through our closets to see what we can share to ensure that everyone can enjoy winter – even if it breaks records for cold and snow!
