Ivy Cruickshank named junior ambassador of Kincardine Fall Fair
Ivy Cruickshank is the new junior ambassador of the Kincardine Fall Fair.

She was crowned at the opening ceremonies, Saturday, at Connaught Park in Kincardine.

It was hot and sunny for the 173rd annual event as hundreds of children and their families filled the park, enjoying the inflatables, the climbing wall, petting farm, corn box, and face-painting, as well as several other activities, including crafts, archery, bubble zone, balloon animals, axe-throwing and a gaming trailer.

Cattle-judging for beef and dairy was held in the afternoon.

The opening ceremonies were held at Noon, with Kincardine Agricultural Society president Anne-Marie Gomes welcoming everyone, and thanking the volunteers who help make the event happen, as well as all the exhibitors and the crowd in attendance.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson said Kincardine always has great weather for the fair. “You have an amazing group of volunteers who work all year for this event to happen. You have many wonderful exhibits and great activities. Enjoy the fair!”

Kincardine mayor Kenneth Craig officially declared the fair open, and noted that this year, the agricultural society was joined by Kincardine Tourism to reach a broader community.

“Farming does not work in isolation, government does not work in isolation, and business does not work in isolation,” he said. “We are all proud to be part of this great event!”

Kincardine Fall Fair ambassador Luke McBride and junior ambassador Reide Searle, who have held the titles for the past two years, said their farewells, noting it was a great experience representing Kincardine at numerous events.

MC Phillip Craig then welcomed junior ambassador contestants Ivy Cruickshank and Claire Ferguson to the stage and they presented their speeches. Both spoke of the importance of agriculture and the fall fair. There were no contestants for senior ambassador.

While judges Carole Machan and Luke McBride deliberated, Craig welcomed to the stage six contestants in the mini-ambassador competition. Juliette French was named Princess of the Fair, while Charlie Blackwell was named Prince of the Fair.

The judges then presented their results, and Ivy was named the junior ambassador.

Earlier in the day, Bessie Farrell of the Kincardine Agricultural Society presented the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) service award to Heather Padfield for her hard work behind the scenes with the agricultural society, and for many years with the 4-H Dairy Club.

The afternoon featured live music in the Connaught Park Pavilion and on the fairgrounds, as well as the Cake Wheel, the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team robot demonstration, and the bale-rolling and bale-throwing competitions.
