Huron County OPP report holiday long weekend traffic campaign results
(
HURON COUNTY, ON) - Members of the Huron County OPP took part in the Labour Day holiday long weekend traffic campaign which ran from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.
The focus was on the "Big Four" which included: distracted driving, alcohol/drug-impaired driving, speeding/aggressive driving, and lack of occupant restraint use.
Officers worked around the clock to increase traffic and water safety. Huron County experienced an influx of tourists, enjoying the Lake Huron shoreline and taking in the many festivities being held in various communities across the area.
Not everyone was following the law, and the following list shows a breakdown of various charges laid by Huron OPP officers over the weekend:
- Speeding - 149
- Seatbelt non-compliance - 12
- Impaired Operation - Five
- Stunt-Driving - Three
- Insurance infractions - 10
- Other Criminal Code Traffic Offence - One
- Other Provincial Offences - 36
Total charges - 216. Officers also issued 74 warnings.
The Huron OPP thanks those who made safety a priority this past weekend and reminds everyone that "traffic safety is everyone's responsibility!"
