Readers object to Kincardine council’s mishandling of Secord Monument issue
To the editor:
Our deputy mayor, Andrea Clarke, in an open letter to Kincardine residents states: “We are a small community that prides itself on acceptance, welcoming one another and kindness and that has not changed.”
Seven councillors have decided that Dr. Solomon Secord was not acceptable, welcome nor kind, so council’s attitude was changed.
The way this whole issue was handled was humiliating to those who donated to, or remember, Dr. Secord.
Respect has to be earned. Seven councillors have lost mine.

To the Editor:
Now that seven members of Kincardine council approved destroying the Secord Monument (respectfully), they are on a roll to “erase Kincardine’s history.”
They now need to obliterate all references to Queen Victoria, Queen Street, Princes Street, etc. (Queen Victoria supported slavery), as it could offend another small part of the community.
Just remember that in the next election all the councillors who do not like living in Kincardine and want to expunge Kincardine’s history, should not run for re-election.
