​Community supports shoreline clean-up at Station Beach, Kincardine

A very successful community shoreline clean-up at Station Beach in Kincardine, organized by Andrew Evans and the Huron Fringe Field Naturalists, took place Sunday afternoon.

Members of the local naturalists club were joined by Kincardine Lions, students and members of the public. In total, 30 volunteers worked to remove plastic pieces, food wrappers, cigarette butts and other waste that pose risks to the environment and users of the beach.

Approximately 50 pounds of garbage was removed.

This event was supported by the Lake Huron Coastal Centre which loaned equipment for the clean-up, including buckets, work gloves and trash pick-up sticks. Many participants also completed tally cards to record the types and amounts of waste removed.

The strong community support was gratifying and it was inspiring to see young people pitching in to keep the beach and park healthy.
