​Kincardine council to appoint new councillor at Wednesday’s meeting

Kincardine council will be appointing a new councillor at the special meeting Wednesday night (Nov. 6) at 5 p.m., in the council chamber.

Clerk Jennifer Lawrie has certified there are nine candidates who have put their names forward to fill the vacancy, following the death of Ward 1 councillor Doug Kennedy in August.

Candidates for the position include:

• Kevin Fournier
• Melville Scott McPherson
• Jason Munro
• Carole Robertson
• Chandra Shekhar Tripathi
• Stellina Williams
• Scott D. Wilson

The public is invited to watch the meeting, either in the council chamber or on-line at www.youtube.com/@MunicipalityofKincardine. The agenda for this meeting, and all council meetings, is posted in the days ahead of the meeting on the municipal calendar at events.kincardine.ca/council.

At the Nov. 6 meeting, the candidates will each have an opportunity to address council which will then vote on the appointment of one of them to the role of Ward 1 councillor. The vote is taken in open session with the chosen candidate swearing the oath of office, followed by the formal appointment to the position by bylaw.

The new councillor’s first official meeting will be Nov. 13, and his/her term of office will run concurrently with the rest of council, ending when the new council is sworn in after the 2026 municipal and school board election, Nov. 15, 2026.
