Free Child Car Seat Clinic sees a few vehicles with positive results
The free Child Car Seat and Booster Seat Inspection Clinic, held Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Kincardine Fire Hall, saw four vehicles show up, and eight seats examined, adjusted and refitted.
Hosted by Community Living of Kincardine and District, the Knox Presbyterian Church in Kincardine and the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada (CPSAC), in partnership with Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services, the event was organized by Wendy Cox and Jenny Raspberry, with help from Matt Cottrill, Devon Gordon and Krystal Catto of the fire department, Wade and Janice Gibson of Knox Kincardine, and accredited technicians Jill Campbell of Palmerston and Sarah Buechert of Drayton.
Raspberry said that while there was a fair amount of interest shown in the clinic, it was a busy weekend and many who inquired were unable to attend.
Cox said that the number of vehicles was lower than expected. However, among those vehicles, it was discovered that one child’s car seat had expired two years ago. The family’s circumstances were known to more than one person on the organizing committee, so steps were taken to provide a new seat before the end of the clinic.
“Ultimately, eight little people were made safer than before,” said Cox, “and the technicians gave us brochures to share information about child car seat safety with families that were not able to attend the clinic.”
She said organizers hope to find volunteers in Kincardine who are willing to be trained in properly fitting child car seats – this would mean reduced travel costs to hold local car seat clinics. If a group of five or more were interested, the CPSAC would bring the training to Kincardine. If you would like to volunteer, contact Cox at

The plan is to hold another free child car seat in May.
