More readers disappointed with Kincardine council’s mishandling of Secord Monument
To the Editor:
I, too, am very disappointed with the way Kincardine council handled the Dr. Solomon Secord Monument. I expect them to be the guardians of the common good, and to not be persuaded by fleeting opinions.
Why didn't council consult with the Secord family before destroying the monument?
Why did council allow the Queen Street reconstruction plans to include removing the monument? If it had been left where it was, there wouldn't have been any issues with it. The monument is more important than benches or planters.

To the Editor:
It was not necessary for the Municipality of Kincardine to take away the Secord Monument.
I feel that in the next election, those that did this, they would not be elected again. I have already stated my opinion on Facebook about the action.
To me, the Municipality of Kincardine, is in big trouble!

To the Editor:
I have received a call from David Secord regarding the disposal of this monument.
I am the great-granddaughter of Dr. Solomon Secord. My grandfather was his son, James, and my mother was James' youngest child.
James Secord moved from Kincardine with his family to North Dakota, and subsequently, to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, where my mother grew up before returning to Toronto.
I’m in total support of David’s concerns.
I wrote a letter a couple of years ago to the newspaper about the concerns over the monument and I’m very disappointed that I was never informed about the final result. I would expect that some consideration should have been given to the family.
