SPEEDER FOUND OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT
(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - A 27-year-old driver of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is facing a criminal code charge of “Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams” following a traffic stop that took place last week.
Just after 9 p.m. Dec. 8, a Huron County OPP officer observed a GMC Savannah van travelling southbound on Base Line at a high rate of speed. The officer took a speed measurement of the vehicle and found it to be speeding well in excess of the posted 80 km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and during the interaction with the him, the officer noticed open alcohol inside the vehicle. The officer also had reason to believe the driver had consumed some alcohol; thus, a demand for the roadside screening device was made.
The man complied with the demand and provided a sample of his breath, resulting in a fail. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 27-year-old Brad WARWICK of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over-80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Speeding and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 18, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
