Patti MacKay won $2,429 in the Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 36 which contained the Ten of Clubs. We have just one more draw in 2024. Here is some important ticket information to remember:

  • Make sure to write your name on both parts of the paper tickets when you are buying them in person. If you watched the draw live this past Wednesday, you would have seen a ticket drawn before Patti’s that had no name on it. Be sure to double-check!
  • After the Dec. 18 draw, there will be no on-line ticket sales until Jan. 1. However, you will still be able to buy in-person tickets at all the usual locations over the break for the Jan. 8 draw (Week 21). They make great Christmas gifts!

The Dec. 7 Mega Meat Draw was a fun time, with lots of people attending. The snacks were a hit — we sold out of nachos, then poutine, and finally wings. It takes a lot of volunteer power to run a day like this. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard, and a special thanks to Al Brown for cooking wings all day. The music provided by the Midnight Special Duo was wonderful. There were LOTS of prizes that day, and we are grateful to everyone who donated, especially No Frills and Sobeys for the turkeys. Don Bowers and Nute Catto were both double-dippers, and Jamie White took home $54.50 in the 50/50 draw — congrats, Jamie! This event raised significant funds that will allow our Legion to support local community members and programs.

We want to backtrack to November for a moment and send out our thanks to Provincial Waste Systems for the generous donation-in-kind in honour of Remembrance Day. It was much appreciated!

We have a large number of people to thank in relation to our Veterans Christmas Banquet, Sunday. Thank you to all the veterans, spouses, widows, widowers, caregivers and guests who attended.

It was wonderful to see everyone, enjoy some conversation, and share some holiday cheer. A big thank you, as well, to everyone who volunteered to help put this event on, cooking in the kitchen, serving, bartending, washing dishes and more! Some extra-special mentions include:

  • Dave Carson, veteran services chairman, for organizing the event, and his spouse, Gloria, for all her help
  • Kincardine Theatre Guild choral singers Caroline Tarsitano and Dan McGibney, who sang some lovely carols for everyone
  • John Taylor for ‘arranging’ a visit from Santa for the crowd

Finally, remember to check our website or Facebook page to see all the festive happenings this month, and when some weekly things will not be occurring, and the dates the Legion is closed.
