Roads, schools closed for third day in a row in Kincardine area
For the third day in a row, blowing and drifting snow has caused the closure of roads, schools and offices, and the cancellation of programs in the Kincardine area.

Highway 21, from Amberley to Goderich, continued to be closed, Wednesday morning, but all Bruce County roads had been re-opened.

School buses were cancelled and the schools were closed in Kincardine, Ripley and Lucknow. This was the eighth straight day for school bus cancellations, and the fourth day in two weeks for the closure of the schools.

This was the fourth consecutive examination day impacted by inclement weather, for Kincardine District Senior School students.

“Thursday (Jan. 30) is now scheduled to be a consolidation day at school,” stated principal Don Burns, in a letter to parents and guardians. “Our regular Semester 1, Day 1, class schedule will be in effect for all four classes.

“If we are not affected by inclement weather, students will be able to attend class, complete summative tasks or write portions of their exams to help them obtain credits and/or improve their marks. We strongly recommend that students who are worried about their current mark, take this opportunity tomorrow.

“If tomorrow is impacted by inclement weather, students will have the option of joining their class on-line during their class time, to work with their teachers.”

In the Municipality of Kincardine, the Davidson Centre was open, but the pool was closed and programs were cancelled. Also, closed, were the Tiverton Sports Centre, Underwood Community Centre, municipal administration centre.

As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, Highway 21, from Port Elgin to Goderich, remained closed.

The forecast is calling for more snow and wind through the rest of the week, with temperatures all over the place, from a high of two degrees Celsius Thursday, to a low of minus-nine Celsius on Saturday.
