Highway 21 in Kincardine area finally re-opens after five-day closure
Motorists were back travelling Highway 21 in the Kincardine area, Saturday, after the roadway had been closed for five days straight.
Snow squalls brought heavy snow and high winds, beginning Monday morning, and Highway 21 was closed, initially from Amberley to Tiverton and later, from Goderich to Southampton.
The blowing and drifting snow continued throughout the week, with Highway 21 finally re-opened, from Goderich to Amberley, Thursday, and then Amberley to Kincardine, Friday.
The final section, from Kincardine to Port Elgin, remained closed into the weekend, as crews worked to clear the heavily-drifted roadway.
At 4 a.m., Saturday, the South Bruce OPP reported that Highway 21 was open from Kincardine to Bruce County Road 20 (just north of Tiverton).
By 7:15 p.m., all of Highway 21 had been re-opened.
The last time Highway 21 in the Kincardine area was closed for an extensive period, was in January, 2018, when it was closed for five days straight due to a snowstorm.
