There was a plethora of snow as a great crowd turned out for the annual Ripley Winter Carnival on the weekend.
The event began Friday night with the costume skate, featuring plenty of young people in colourful outfits, at the Ripley Arena.
Saturday, saw a number of Huron-Bruce Minor Hockey games, as well as the pancake breakfast where hundreds enjoyed a delicious meal of scrambled eggs, ham, pancakes and toast, with coffee and milk or chocolate milk.
The weather played havoc on the horse-drawn sleigh rides, as the team of horses struggled in the deep snow. Ultimately, the event had to be cancelled.
Meanwhile, the Ripley-Huron firefighters braved the elements, gathered around a bonfire to stay warm, and giving tours of a couple of fire trucks. Youngsters also enjoyed roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the open fire.
A large crowd of children and adults turned out for the ice-painting, Saturday afternoon, creating numerous masterpieces on the ice surface at the arena.
Euchre and bridge tournaments were also held in the afternoon, followed by the hockey skills competition and public skating. The Ripley Wolves game, slated for Saturday night, was postponed, due to inclement weather.
Sponsors of the winter carnival include: The Beefway, Egg Farmers of Ontario, Ripley Lions Club, Grey-Bruce Pork Producers, Ripley Agricultural Society, Rosewood RVilla, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Ripley-Huron Fire Department, Ripley Wolves, and the Township of Huron-Kinloss.
