Purple Grove news
Another snowy week and weekend for our community and we 're all needing to take care of each other and ourselves!

Hope everyone was able to be close to some of the near and dear people in your lives over this Valentine’s weekend too!

It sure was great to see all the kids and adults out for the costume skate, pancake breakfast, hanging out with our volunteer firefighters, and some great hockey games at the Ripley Winter Carnival! It was a fun weekend for all! Saturday, several people were actively celebrating the 60th anniversary of our Canadian flag and being proud Canadians!

Wishing everyone a Happy Family Day, Monday, Feb. 17, in spite of the wind and snow blowing again!

A great number of folks were present to support the family of Mary Cook whose celebration of life was Saturday at the Ripley Legion.

We extend our sympathy to the families of Rovie Elmes of Point Clark, a well-known lady of our area.  Many also remember Ross Errington of Lucknow, from his teaching days at Brookside Public School and the many other organizations to which he belonged.

Wishing Dianne Simpson a very Happy 70th Birthday, Feb. 19! Also celebrating birthdays recently, are Kathleen Ackert, Sandy McEwan, Leanne, Smith, Matt de Boer, Marlene Van Ryswyk, Jaclyn and Natalie Newman, Diane Clifford, Thomas Farrell and Harvey de Leeuw!

Happy Wedding Anniversary to Diane and Arnie Clifford on the weekend too!

Many of our rural communities are disappointed with the scheduled closures of the Peavey Mart stores in Walkerton and Goderich, and with the closure of the Hensall District Co-op in Ripley, sometime in April. Our local businesses need our support and perhaps more so when supplies and feed mean further drives and more time spent on the road.

We are also sad to hear that the owners of Fincher’s in Kincardine and Goderich are retiring after 69 years of serving customers. We certainly have appreciated their presence in our towns.

It's also Women’s Institute Day, Feb. 19. In the last newsletter, the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada (FWIC) mentioned that it is celebrating with a Canada-wide Zoom event, set to start at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, celebrating 128 years of this organization! If of interest to anyone, E-mail registrations@fwic.ca and you will receive a link for the event. We are also encouraged to wear the blue and gold colours of W.I. that day.
