Peggy Taylor of Ripley remembered for her love of family, making crafts, and helping others
Margaret (“Peggy”) Taylor (nee Brisbin) of Ripley, beloved wife of the late Bob Taylor, died peacefully, with family by her side, at the Kincardine Hospital, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born Dec. 10, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Jean (Stewart) and William Brisbin.
Peggy was born in Midland and grew up on the family farm just outside of Listowel in Perth County. She attended school in Listowel and was active in 4-H for many years.
In 1963, when she was 17 years old, she moved to London to work as a receptionist at London Life, and later moved to Kitchener to work at Mutual Life.
Aug. 9, 1969, she married Robert John Taylor and they had four children, Steven William (1970), Kevin John (1972), Deborah Lynne (1973) and Angela Jean (1977).
Peggy lived for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren, unconditionally, and was ever present with words of encouragement, kindness, knowledge, support and advice. She was loved by many for her great kindness, empathy and insights.
An outstanding wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she had a giant heart and was always willing to help anyone in need.
While her children were young, Peggy was a homemaker and mom. She then became a health-care aide, first with home care and then at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, later attending Georgian College to become a trained Reactivation Specialist for Pinecrest.
At home and at work, Peggy selflessly helped and supported others.
In her retirement, she started a casual job with Canada Post in Ripley in addition to assisting her husband with his mail route.
Peggy has been an active member in the United Church Women (UCW) her entire adult life, participated in the horticultural society, and prior to getting rheumatoid arthritis, she regularly volunteered at the school and arena, including the milk program and the booth.
She absolutely loved going to, and hearing about, her kids’ and grandkids’ concerts, baseball, soccer, hockey, skating, ringette, etc. Spending time with her family was her life’s greatest joy! She also loved to travel with her family, complete household do-it-yourself renovations, engage the entire family in annual baking, pickling and preserving, and using her creative mind to make all types of crafts, including macrame lawn chairs, quilts, wreaths, afghans, and cross-stitch.
Peggy is survived by her children, Kevin (Nikki), Debbie, and Angela Taylor, all of Ripley.
Greatly missed by her grandsons, Evan, Will, Colton and Weston.
Also survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Vader of Listowel; and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her son, Steven; and brother, Donald Brisbin.
A private funeral service will take place at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley.
A public celebration of life, for both Bob and Peg, will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre, from 1-4 p.m. Memories will be shared at 1 p.m., followed by a come-and-go reception until 4 p.m.
Spring interment, Brandon-Belgrave Cemetery.
