Bruce Power removes Unit 2 from service due to excessive fish in Bruce “A” intake
Unit 2 at the Bruce Power nuclear generating site, northwest of Tiverton, was proactively removed from service, Feb. 13, due to a high volume of fish (gizzard shad) in the Bruce “A” intake channel.
That’s the word from John Peevers, director of community, media relations and economic development.
The Bruce “A” operations team made the conservative decision to remove Unit 2 from service while mitigation measures are being implemented, said Peevers, via E-mail. “Bruce Power is investigating possible factors that could be contributing to this event, including gizzard shad sensitivities to cold lake temperatures.”
Unit 1 at Bruce “A” remains in service, while Units 3 and 4 are off-line for their Major Component Replacement (MCR) projects, said Peevers. Units 6-8 at Bruce “B” are operating at high power while Unit 5 is off-line for a planned maintenance outage.
