HURON OPP INVESTIGATING OVERNIGHT MISCHIEF
(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County OPP officers are currently investigating a case of vandalism that occurred in the south end of Goderich early Wednesday morning, Dec. 23.
Sometime between Midnight and 7 a.m., unknown persons spilled yellow paint and a large quantity of nails across the roadway at the intersection of South Street and Balvina Drive. Those responsible also used black spray paint to deface the Stop sign at the intersection. As well, they spray-painted the hood and two rear fenders of a Honda Civic that was parked in a driveway near that intersection.
Huron County OPP officers would like to speak with anyone who may have information about this senseless crime. Willfully destroying someone else’s property is no joke. It is the criminal offence called Mischief and this offence carries stiff penalties up to, and including, jail time.
Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-8314. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
OPP FESTIVE RIDE PROGRAM TARGETS ALCOHOL AND DRUG IMPAIRED DRIVERS
RIDE programs continue – “most getting the message”
(HURON COUNTY, ON) – It is exactly one month into the annual Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign and the Huron OPP is reporting that most drivers are keeping things safe on the roads by not driving after consuming alcohol or drugs.
Huron OPP officers have set up nearly 200 RIDE checkpoints throughout the county during the Festive RIDE campaign. Out of the thousands of drivers who have entered the checkpoints, two have been charged with Over-80/Impaired offences and another three have been served with Warn Range Suspensions. Last year’s campaign saw 19 drivers charged in Huron County and another three were served with a Warn Range Suspension.
“Based on our RIDE statistics to date, I can confidently say most of the drivers we talk to are thankfully getting the message," says Huron County OPP staff sergeant Shawn Johnson. "They are choosing to make a safe, responsible and wise decision to avoid consuming alcohol or other drugs if they are going to drive. Thanks, also, to members of the public for their calls when they suspect someone is driving while impaired. Keeping our roadways as safe as possible is our goal and those calls do play a key role in road safety.”
Please keep it safe on the roads. Remember, any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair your ability to drive. If you plan on drinking alcohol, please plan not to drive; instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or stay overnight.
If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If someone intends on driving but is impaired, strongly discourage him/her from driving and call 9-1-1 if the person persists.
Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are fast approaching. Please keep it safe on our Huron County roadways.
