Highway 21, Kincardine, closed for fifth day in a row
Highway 21, from Grand Bend to Southampton, remained closed for the fifth day in a row, Friday (Feb. 21), as crews continued to clear heavy snow drifts, due to the blowing and drifting snow that hit Monday (Feb. 17).

School buses were cancelled for Kincardine and Ripley, but the schools were open.

At 10:13 a.m., the South Bruce OPP reported that Highway 21, from Port Elgin to Southampton, had been re-opened. However, the remainder of Highway 21, from Port Elgin to Amberley, was still closed.

The 511 Ontario highways website indicated that Highway 21, from Amberley to Grand Bend, was also still closed.

All Bruce County Roads had been re-opened.

In the Municipality of Kincardine, things have returned to normal, with all roads open. However, crews were still working to get a few rural roads fully cleared, so motorists were advised to give themselves extra time and give other travellers and plow operators some extra space.

Sideroad 5S, from the Southline to the Huron-Kincardine West Boundary, remains closed until further notice.

The Davidson Centre was open with all programs and drop-in activities running, and the pool was open with all regularly-scheduled activities and programs including swimming lessons.

The municipal administration centre and the Tiverton Sports Centre were open. However, the Underwood Community Centre is closed until Thursday, Feb. 27, at 8:30 a.m.

As of 9 p.m., Feb. 21, Highway 21 remains closed, from Port Elgin to Grand Bend.

Highway 21, at the intersection of Bruce County Road 6 (Pine River), south of Kincardine, Friday afternoon; Highway 21, from Grand Bend to Port Elgin, remains closed for the fifth day in a row, due to blowing and drifting snow

For those who decide to travel, keep your headlights and tail-lights on and clear of snow and do not drive on a closed road.

I hope people send their Member of Parliament a letter asking why the highway is closed so much every year. It is because some engineer sitting behind a desk in who that doesn't even know where HWY 21 is, so graciously added all those unneeded guard rails that were not there before from Tiverton to Kincardine a few years back when the HWY was being upgraded.
