Participants to walk only two-kilometre route at Coldest Night of the Year in Kincardine
The annual Coldest Night of the Year Walk will be held today (Feb. 22), beginning at 4 p.m. at the Kincardine Legion, as well as in Saugeen Shores, Meaford, and Grey Highlands.

However, due to current conditions, organizers have eliminated the five-kilometre route. All walkers are asked to complete the two-kilometre route instead.

Safety remains the top priority, says Kristy Andre, fund-raising champion for the United Way of Bruce Grey.

“With sidewalks still snow-covered, and a few road closures, participants are encouraged to attend only if they feel safe to do so, and to avoid driving on closed roads at all times,” she says. “If travel conditions are unsafe, walkers are welcome to complete their walk at a later time when conditions improve.

"If you can safely make it to any of the events, we encourage you to join us. We want people to be as safe as possible and participate in a way they are comfortable with."

Organizers will continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates if anything changes. Participants are encouraged to check their E-mail or social media, for any further announcements.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for those experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in local communities. Fund-raising remains open until March 31, allowing continued contributions toward this important cause.

In Kincardine, the event supports the United Way and the Kincardine Good Food Box Neighbour-to-Neighbour Initiative.
