Almost 140 people joined in the third annual Coldest Night of the Year Walk, Saturday evening at the Kincardine Legion, raising $33,745 in support of the Kincardine Good Food Box Neighbour-to-Neighbour Initiative, and the United Way of Bruce Grey
Teams gathered for photos with Blinky, Kincardine’s mascot, inside a framed snow globe, while volunteers ensured everyone was signed up and ready to walk.
There were 138 walkers, 20 teams, and 28 volunteers at the event, and the funds raised were well over the $30,000 goal. The money is used to help individuals experiencing hardship, hunger, or homelessness. People are welcome to donate on-line, up to the end of March, at cnoy.org/location/kincardine.
Just prior to the walk in Kincardine, Kristy Andre, fund-raising champion with the United Way of Bruce and Grey, welcomed everyone and thanked the participants, the organizers and volunteers for donating their time and money for the cause
Piper Andy Fraser of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band played the bagpipes as the walkers left the Legion and headed out on the two-kilometre route. Afterwards, they were invited back to the Legion for chili and hot chocolate. The leftover chili was taken to Drop-in at the Bridge.
United Way of Bruce Grey and local community partners also hosted walks in Saugeen Shores, Grey Highlands, and Meaford, with a total of 513 walkers raising $120,326.
