Menesetung Bridge near Goderich to close in April for four to five months
The Menesetung Bridge, located between Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and Goderich, will be closed to all traffic — including pedestrians and cyclists — beginning in April, as part of a significant repair project aimed at enhancing the bridge's safety and longevity for future generations.
This closure is expected to last about 16 weeks, with the possibility of extending up to 20 weeks, depending on the progress of the renovations.
That’s the word from Marian Lane, chairperson of the Menesetung Bridge Association board, in a press release, issued March 5.
The association is collaborating with several partners, including the G2G Rail Trail, the Maitland Trail Association, Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, the Trans Canada Trail, local municipalities, and the province, to ensure the bridge continues to serve as a vital connection between communities.
This project has been several years in the making, with a focus on preserving the bridge as a recreational space and a natural gathering point for residents and visitors, alike.
“As we move forward with this important repair work, we want to remind the community that funding is still needed to complete the project,” states Lane, in the press release. “If you are able to contribute, consider donating through the
Menesetung Bridge Association. Your support will help ensure that this beloved structure remains accessible for years to come.”
A detour route is currently being developed to provide a safe crossing over the Maitland River during the closure. Details of the closure and detour information will be announced on the association’s website at
Mensetungbridgeassociation.org, ensuring that all users can navigate the area safely.
“We appreciate your understanding and support during this period of construction as we work to enhance the historic Menesetung Bridge for the enjoyment of all," stated Lane.
