SVCA receives funding from RBC Foundation for flood and drought forecasting
The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) has announced a $10,000 donation from the RBC Foundation to enhance the hydrometric network and improve real-time data collection for flood and drought forecasting.
This funding will be used to upgrade aging stream gauge equipment and ensure a continuous flow of water level, stream-flow, and precipitation data. As climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, accurate and timely data is essential for protecting communities from natural hazards.
“In Canada, 1.5-million homes are uninsurable for flooding,” said Melanie Green, regional vice-president, Central Shores, RBC. “These enhanced monitoring capabilities will improve the reliability of SVCA’s data, helping organizations and individuals mitigate risks by preparing accordingly.”
This funding represents a significant investment in public safety and environmental stewardship, reinforcing SVCA’s commitment to using innovative technologies to strengthen watershed management across five counties.
The RBC Foundation is a Canadian registered charity and private foundation. Solely funded by RBC, it provides donations exclusively from RBC’s annual earnings, not from third-party or client donations.
