Huron-Kinloss council officially adopts 2025 budget
Huron-Kinloss council officially adopted the 2025 budget at the meeting Monday night (March 17).
The budget contains $16.1-million in operating expenditures and $7.9-million in capital expenditures. After revenues and transfers from reserves are applied, the township must levy $11,479,035; an increase of $675,615 or 6.25 per cent over the 2024 levy.
In order to raise these funds, the residential tax rate will be set at 0.00758000; a 4.75-per-cent increase over the 2024 tax rate.
The province-wide reassessment that was scheduled to be implemented in 2021, is still on hold. Therefore, property owners can expect their property assessment for the 2025 taxation year to be frozen at the 2020 assessment unless changes to their property have been made.
According to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) the average value of a residential single family home in the township is $266,435. The increase to the municipal portion of the tax bill for 2025 is $34.37 for every $100,000 in assessed value.
Combining the municipal, Bruce County and education taxes, for every $100,000 in assessed value, the average homeowner paid a total of $1,377.93 in property tax for 2024. For 2025, that amount will increase by $58.80 to $1,436.73; an overall increase of 4.3 per cent.
