Georgian Bluffs woman wins $120,000 jackpot in Kincardine Catch the Ace lottery
Rosanne Roy of Georgian Bluffs, just outside Owen Sound, has won the jackpot of $120,047 in the Catch the Ace progressive lottery, organized by the Kincardine Legion, Huron Shores Hospice, and the Tiverton Lions Club.
Roy was at the Legion, Tuesday morning, to pick up her cheque, and said it still feels a bit surreal to have won the grand prize.
She began purchasing Catch the Ace tickets after buying some for her friend, Kathleen Petley, who has a cottage in Inverhuron.
“I saw that it was for a good cause – the three charities – so I started buying tickets for myself, and here we are,” she said, with a laugh.
After her ticket was drawn last Wednesday, her Envelope No. 48 was opened and it revealed the Ace of Spades.
“I chose No. 48 because that’s the year my sister was born,” said Roy, “and she passed away in 2022.”
Roy said she was sitting in her living room watching television, when her husband said she had a message on her cell phone. It was the Catch the Ace organizers calling, and asking her to call them back.
“I thought it was my friend’s ticket that won, so I checked hers first, but it was me,” said Roy.
She plans to purchase a hot tub which she and her husband have been wanting to buy for a long time. Plus, they have a grandchild on the way, in British Columbia, so there will be some travel in their future as well.
The next round of Catch the Ace will begin in May.
