​Team Huron Heights brings home medals from regional science fair
Students of Huron Heights Public School in Kincardine brought home numerous medals from the Junior Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair, held Wednesday, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.

Team Huron Heights featured 17 students, presenting their scientific findings to the judges, and exploring Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) topics with the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) through the fair’s special events programming on the MS Chi-Cheemaun.

At the awards ceremony, the following Huron Heights students received medals:

Bronze:
  • Mason Davis, “Battle of the Sports Drinks”
  • Callan Adams, “Fire and Ice: “Sauna and Ice Baths”
  • Barrett Johnston, “Make Your Own Siphon”
  • Natalie Tout, “Trusses”
  • Mason Ibbitson, “What is the Strongest Type of Bridge?”

Silver:
  • Elsie McCrae, “How Sweet It Is”
  • Ashton Blackwood, “Vertical Farming”
  • Robin Moffatt, “The Great Garbage Grow-off”
  • Mason McLean, “Does Music Help Plants Grow?”
  • Lily Atkinson and Jack Wright, “Dwayne The Rock Candy”
  • Maeve Bradley, “Can Water Solve a Maze?”

Gold:
  • Prestyn Osborne-Nickel, “Which Gum Has the Longest Flavour?”
  • Sophie Warner, “Colour and Memory”
  • Madison Young, “Fish of Lake Huron”
  • Claire Bradley, “Comparing Chlorophyll”
  • Clare O'Handley, “Automatic Goat Care”

Special Awards: The following special awards were presented to Huron Heights students for being the top project in their category:
 
  • Life Science Award - Claire Bradley, “Comparing Chlorophyll”
  • Owen Sound Field Naturalists Award - Robin Moffatt, “The Great Garbage Grow-off”
  • Roots of Bruce Award - Clare O’Handley, “Automatic Goat Care”
  • A John Twelves STEM Challenge Award - Elsie McCrae, “How Sweet It Is”
